The future of customer service is here. Technology has made seeking out support faster and easier than ever. But, has your digital age company sacrificed true service in the name of automation?

Today, finding customer support is as simple as writing an e-mail or picking up the phone. But, even though you’re not face-to-face with your customers, you still leave a lasting impression. Do you come across as caring and competent, or menacing and mechanical?

Offering stand-out service on the Internet isn’t as hard as it is rare. Take these simple steps towards old-style service in the digital age:

Give Each Customer a Personal Response

    When a customer sits down to e-mail your company, it’s because he needs help. He chooses e-mail because it’s quick, but his request still warrants a satisfying and personal response!  

    Companies eager to save time and money often take automation too far in their customer support. Each customer has a unique question, and deserves a unique answer. Even if you save time by copying and pasting stock replies, change the opening and closing to make the message sound less robotic.

Be Clear, But Sincere

    When responding to customers’ e-mail, be sincere and to the point. Before sending a message, try turning the tables. Ask yourself, “Would this answer satisfy me if I were the customer?”  

    Take that extra moment to give your customer the help he deserves. It might mean the difference between a satisfied customer and a credit card chargeback!

Make Sure Your Support Reps Have All The Answers

    The presence of phone support will do no good if your staff doesn’t know your product! Customer support reps should be warm and friendly, and willing to help with any aspect of your product.  

    What a good feeling it is to talk to someone who feels confident in his product. It’s even better if he’s knowledgeable enough to solve your problem without transferring you all around the company!

Laser Target your Niche market

Your web copy should laser-target your specific market segment

In this post, I shall try to address some common mistakes that many internet marketers – especially the new entrants do while launching their new online income opportunity – and how to avoid these costly mistakes.

1. Zero-ing down on the business model for your new online income opportunity:

Many people try to sell products from one website to completely different audiences. For them, the key to becoming successful is to offer “something for everyone” or “find everything under one roof”.

Well, in internet marketing, nothing could be farther from truth.

For example, the main product featured on the homepage promoting your new online income opportunity may be related to wedding dresses but you may also try to offer pregnancy advise and engagement rings on the same site. Additionally, to make the best of the internet real estate, you may be tempted to put up a couple of pages with links to affiliate sites - for people who are looking to buy baby products etc.

Though each of the above products is related to your new online income opportunity, one would have more success by laser targeting the audience and speaking directly to their specific needs. Do not muddle up your message by trying to appeal to too many different people at once.

Online, this “something for everyone” approach simply does not work. You must set up a different dedicated site to promote each of your main products.

Once you start making sales, you should stay in touch with your two main customer groups through email and promote different products or affiliate products to them.

2. Your keyword phrases:

Which keywords and phrases is your website optimized for? After all, your keywords are the “key” to your success with the search engines.

Keywords related to your new online income opportunity should be carefully researched and inserted into your meta tags. This is a basic search engine optimization technique, but not everyone knows or uses it.

Make sure your keywords are “specific” to the niche market of your new online income opportunity.

When I checked for today for the keyword “Internet” Google presented me a search result of 1,310,000,000 (that is One billion Three Hundred & Ten Million!!!) What kind of chances would I have trying to optimize my site in this case? There’s no point optimizing your site for keywords that have such overwhelming competition. Leave it to the big boys who have the necessary budget, resources and time to achieve results.

My website promotes internet marketing, but my keyword is new online income opportunity. As of today, this keyword new online income opportunity has a competition of 27,100,000 - which is very high, by the way, but far lesser compared to the earlier example – and my website ranks #1 amid all this competition.

So, narrow down your keyword to a very specific niche and try to dominate that particular target market.

Clustering of words and phrases in your keyword meta tag should also be limited and narrowed down to be effective. Bundling irrelevant or uncommon keywords in your meta tags will dilute your ranking in the search engines.

But what exactly are the phrases that people type into the search engines to find your products or services? How will they know about your new online income opportunity? It’s research time!

Conduct some keyword research on Wordtracker (http://www.internetmarketingtoolsntips.com/Recommends/Wordtracker) to see exactly what phrases people are typing into the search engines to find a solution to the problem YOUR product solves.

Visit popular pregnancy forums, blogs, and chat groups. See if people really are talking about these problems — and if so, what language they’re using to describe them.

THAT’S the language you should be using in your sales copy to promote your new online income opportunity.

Which brings us to our next point…

3. Your sales copy:

People go online to search for information related to a problem they have.

You must put those phrases to work in your sales copy.

You have to show visitors that your site offers a solution to their problem. And you have to do it right upfront.

Use large, easy-to-read, very clearly defined headline at the top of your site. It should be the first thing people see when they arrive at your site, and it needs to present their problem — and promise a solution — in an attention-grabbing way.

Make sure your headline is in text format and not part of an image. This allows the search engine spiders to crawl it — which is important, because the search engines place a lot of importance on the text you’ve got in your headline tags, so this should ideally contain the keyword of your new online income opportunity.

As you move forward in your sales copy, your phrases should talk about your product in terms of its BENEFITS, not its FEATURES!

Include a story to show your visitors that you can relate to their problem. This will make you seem far more credible.

Also, you have to include testimonials on your page! People need to see real words from real people, explaining how your product has made their lives better. You can easily get testimonials by giving your product away for free to friends and acquaintances or to people you meet online at related forums, blogs, or chat groups. Simply send them a copy and ask for some feedback in exchange. This will greatly increase your success in your new online income opportunity.

Is that all? Don’t you forget to include a strong call to action that compels your visitors to buy.

And don’t forget the P.S. at the end of your letter. It should restate your main benefits or emphasize the urgency angle. This alone has been known to increase the sales ratio by as much as 65%!
